Kirby lost his valiant battle with cancer Thursday, May 27th, 2010. This was a sad goodbye for all of those who cared so much about him. We will continue to keep his family in our thoughts and prayers. The obituary is included below, but all of us who knew Kirby will not remember just these simple facts that summarize his life, but the Kirby we knew that had the quick grin, the hearty laugh, and the fun-loving spirit that will stay with us in our memories.
Kirby Neil Barrett, 45, of Wakefield, died Thursday, May 27, 2010, following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 29, 1964, in Manhattan, the son of George and Louise (Kemplay) Barrett.
Kirby was a senior construction manager with Transystems in Lenexa and also worked for Sloan and Meier Hancock Engineers Surveyors, Schwab and Eaton, and the Kansas Department of Transportation.
He was married to Tami L. Moss on May 21, 1994. He was preceeded in death by his father, George Barrett, one nephew, Shane Fleener and his wife Melissa, and one great nephew, Jackson Miller Harnett.
He is survived by his wife, Tami Moss-Barrett; one son, Brock Landon Barrett; two daughters, Tagan Barrett and McKenzy Barrett, all of the home in Wakefield; his mother, Louise Barrett of Riley; his sister, Jorja Denise Fleener and husband John of Manhattan; and one granddaughter, Tacey Amberlyn Barrett.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday, June 1, at the Riley United Methodist Church in Riley. Respect calls may be made anytime Sunday or Monday at the Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, where the family will receive friends from 6-7:30 pm Monday. Burial will be in the Riley Cemetery east of Riley.
A memorial has been established in Kirby's name, to be determined later.
